One of my goals for you this semester is that you become familiar with the Lindenwood School of Education and what you can expect over the next 4 years of your life. In order to do this, you need to be very familiar with the Lindenwood website, and in particular, the School of Education section of the website. The following link should take you to the School of Education section of the website. http://www.lindenwood.edu/academics/education/ Please browse the site and find something new that you either didn't know before or that you didn't know was on the website. You only have to post one reply this week. It is not necessary that you reply to a classmate. HOWEVER, you must find something on the website that is different than what the previous posts have indicated. Here are a few things to remember while you are looking for information: 1. It must be related to either Education or your Secondary Field of Study. 2. It can be a form you found on the Guide to Undergraduate Teacher Education, but you must specify what the form is about and when you would use it. 3. It can be something about Student Teaching, but be specific about what you learned. 4. It can be something about Foliotek, but be specific about what you learned. 5. It can be something about CBASE or Praxis, but be specific about what you learned. 6. You will not submit information about a form that another student has already posted.
You may also find something that will help you with your LU program on PCCommon in the School of Education Folder. You can either use something found on PCCommon or on the LU website for your blog comment.
See you guys next week!

after browsing the lindenwood education department website, I have learned that there is a link that includes helpful websites. This page is accessed by clicking on "student resources" and then "helpful links" this page would be helpful when wanting to know about workshops in the area and other special programs. It is also convenient because it has a link that can take you job listings in the area that are available.
ReplyDeleteWell i was looking around on the website and i thought i should look up a little more information on the c base testing since i will be doing it in the near furture. i know we went over some information about it in class but i was able to gather more information from this website. but overall what i thought was kind of cool was that they have a spot where you can download a pdf file for all the subjects on the c base and print out a study guide. i know i am going to be a little rusty with all the subjects and having this available will help me along the way.
ReplyDelete***http://www.lindenwood.edu/education/cbase.cfm then just click the three subjects for a pdf study guide...
After clicking on random links and browsing through the Education webpage, i was able to find something very very useful for every student in the Education field. I found a list of all the teaching advisors and teachers with information on how to contact them. It gives you the title of the class they teach, their phone number so you can contact them, and their office number so you can locate them them if you should need to. I also learned that if you want to email one of them, you just click on their name highlighted in blue and it will take you straight to an email with their address already plugged in.
ReplyDeleteTo get here, just go to the Education "Home Page" then if you look on the left hand side, there will be a column with some bullets and it is the 3rd bullet down called "Advisor Contacts". Just click on that and it will come up. Very Useful!
One of my biggest issues in life is being overly paranoid about things. I get all worked up and worried over things which leads to me getting stressed out. I was very happy to find a Student Counseling section on this part of the website that gives specific examples of the types of issues in people's lives that these counselors help them with. On top of that it gave detailed contact information for anyone needing help. This is very important, at least in my eyes, because College can be a very stressful thing for people because you aren't in the birds nest anymore, but just because you aren't in the birds nest doesn't mean that you are alone.
ReplyDeleteI was interested in figuring out what's different if you teach in a different state than missouri. So i took a look and when i was on that part of the website i found the missouri teaching standards. I scanned through it and read some of the more important parts and figured out that although, most of the rules and standards are probably the same for everywhere. Each state most likely has at least one thing that is different. This means that i will have to do some extra research after graduation to see what kinds of different requirements i may need to teach in a state that is not missouri, since i do not plan on spending my teaching career here.
ReplyDeleteWhen I went searching I found a whole page on important announcements. It was fantastic, because normally you have like 20 different pages that all have important deadlines and due dates. But when I went to Lindenwood University, academics, school of education, and then announcements it gave me everything from the C Base to mandatory student teaching seminars. I find that very helpful because I do not have to write it all down and I know that it is all in one place.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'd never really thought about this before... student teachers are required to attend all faculty meetings, workshops, institute days, all activities required of the regular teacher. I expected to do the daily grind of attendance, lesson plans, grading papers, but didn't realize these extra things would be put on the shoulders of the student teacher. It will no doubt be overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteAs I was look through the website I saw there is a survey that the alumni can take to post their comments on how the school helped has helped them in their teaching career. It is great to know that Lindenwood University cares about our comments of how they can enhance their program. It is exciting to know that Lindenwood uses the comments to evaluate and assess their teacher education program. I feel pride in knowing Lindenwood University cares enough about their students to listen to their comments after their have graduated and are in their teaching careers.
ReplyDeleteWhile browsing the education page I clicked on undergraduate programs and then clicked on Physical Education K-12. What came up was a complete list of all required courses which must be taken in order to receive a degree. I like being able to know what classes I will be taking eventually.
ReplyDeleteWell, since I am actually getting ready to student teach next fall (yay!) , I need to be getting my portfolio ready. http://www.lindenwood.edu/counseling/portfolioPraxis.cfm <--- this page on the LU websites gives me some handy information to have such as a guideline or a rubric for how they are going to grade my portfolio, a handbook link which explains step by step how to create a portfolio, and also a link to go to the foliotek website. I found this page to be very helpful during a time when things can be very stressful!
ReplyDeleteAfter looking through the lindenwood education website, I found the link (http://www.lindenwood.edu/education/ePortfolio.cfm) that says what needs to be included in our eportfolio. I thought it was great to see that Lindenwood already gives us the templates to use in our portfolio, all the way from standard 1.2.1 to 1.2.11. It's nice to know that we can always fall back on the templates to guide us. Especially when we need to get our portfolios's ready during our student teaching. I don't know if that link is similar to Ashley's above me and just located in a different place...so just in case I also found a link that leads to the Educator Certification Forms on a dese website. It lists the forms that we may need to get certification. It's nice that I can find all of this just from clicking on teacher education. Everything is located at the click of a button rather than doing a ton of research. It will definitely come in handy.
ReplyDeleteHey, guys! One of the things I really like about this week's blog assignment is that everyone must read all of the blogs just to make sure you don't repeat someone else. Those of you who post early might miss out on some excellent website finds. You might want to check back early next week to read about what everyone else found.
ReplyDeleteBen Dye - Our counseling department is wonderful! They will even help if a student is experiencing test anxiety. They will teach you strategies to help you be successful. Many pre-service teachers who have struggled on the Praxis test have worked with the counseling department and they have had a 100% success rate on the Praxis after working with the counseling department.
Okay so the first time this didnt work so now im typing again! On the website on the home page of education if you scroll down there are numbers for you to call to get a hold of someone who is in the subject area that you want to teach. For example you can call Dr. Frank Thouvenot if you want to teach Elementary education. I hope someone will find use in this. I have never really looked at the home page, I have always gone to were I needed. I am going to try to look at the home pages more often for information that could come in handy.
ReplyDeleteUnder Student Links their is a section that is titled "helpful websites". This section can really point you in the right direction if you want to be a teacher.
ReplyDeleteGuys, I would like for you to be specific - For example, Andrew, what in particular did you find helpful in the "helpful websites?"
ReplyDeleteBy the way - It was great to see so many of you last night at the LU football game! I didn't realize so many of you were cheerleaders, dancers, band members, and athletes! The game was great - we won!!!
I was looking through the website and found a lot of new things. But, of course everyone has already used them. I started reading the home page thou and found out that all the educational field teacher are suppose to have "Distinguishing Characteristics". If you think about it everyone I have met up here does have these which is really nice.
ReplyDeletethis might sound dumb.. but i didnt realize you can have certain teaching jobs that do not require certication.
ReplyDeleteWell I looked at the deadlines and important announcements for stuff. And I came across Praxis test dates and student teaching dates. I learned that I need to take the Praxis soon. Before applying to student teach, you need to take the praxis. Well I plan on student teaching in spring 2011 that means I have to take the praxis really soon. Boo!
ReplyDeleteI was checking out requirements in order to get cerified, I was not aware that you needed to get an "A" or "B" in student teaching to pass. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteI know this is bad... BUT i have never really looked at the education section on the LU site. something i found very helpful was the step by step guide for the teacher acceptance program. seeing what i need to accomplish helps me to stay organized and on top of things.
ReplyDeletei went to the lindenwood education website and found a few interesting things. I just looked around at alot of different things and i found the part about doctorate program to be really interesting. The fact that students that want to continue on and become principals and super attendants was interesting to me. Although i am not really looking to become a principal of a school :)
ReplyDeleteFrom looking at the school of education home page on the Lindenwood University website what i found new and interesting was the Conceptual Framework of a certified educator. I love how they say teaching is like a blend between art and science I just got a whole new perspective on the preparation for the most effective balance in a teachers professional and personal journey. Also when looking at the Spellman Clock Tower im always going to think of the relationship it reflects with when dealing with the education program at Lindenwood University.
ReplyDeleteAfter looking through the many differnt parts of the education site I began looking at all the different programs that Lindenwood offers. I went to the PDF that had more detail so I could see the full list of programs. I had no idea that things like scuba and pickleball were offered. What is pickleball anyways?
ReplyDeleteFrom looking at the Lindenwood website I found out that the clock tower had to deal with education and I did not know that. Also, since I am still adjusting to the new enviroment here I have been stressed with all this work and being away from home and I found where I can go talk to people that will help comfort me. =)
ReplyDeletei found pretty much everything helpful
