I've posted many actions of an effective teacher on the side of the blog. Take a look at this list that my Tuesday 9:30 class collected and think about the value of each characteristic. After you've reviewed the list carefully, please post your response to the following question...
Congratulations! You've just landed the teaching position of your dreams. You begin packing your things to fly to the new school district and realize, due to the increased costs of gasoline, you can bring with you only three suitcases. Each suitcase can hold only ONE action of an effective teacher...which three would you take with you and why? If you would like to choose an action or actions that are not on the list, please feel free to choose a different one.
Don't forget to also post a response to at least one of your peers. Happy Writing!

It would be hard to choose which three. But, I would choose to know my students, challenge them, and show interest in the content. I know what it feels like to have teachers not understand your difficulites and how it feels when they do know you. It not only makes you feel less stressed but it makes you actually want to show up to school. Also, there was many times I knew I could get stuff done, and understand it, but with playing sports year around it seemed easier to put it off. My school was smaller so the teachers would challenge you, which also made you want to go to school to prove the teacher that you could get it done, or did get it done. Going to school when your a teenager becomes not a number one thing to do, but it is even harder if you attend a class where the teacher acts like the class is just a babysitting job. If they show like they want to be there, and are really interested in what they are teaching, who knows what student in their class they will inspire to become a teacher.
ReplyDeleteMy three "actions" I would bring are respectful, inspire students, and interested in students family.
ReplyDeleteI would bring respectful for a really good reason. In my opinion, the more respect I show to the students, the more I let them become more independent and aware that their actions will lead to bad or good consequences. Basically, the more respect you show the students the more resonsibility you give them, because you aren't nagging them 24/7, allowing them to grow up and mature faster after they realize they don't get everything they want when it is up to them to get it.
I would also bring the ability to inspire students. I truly believe that any student that isn't motivated to go to class and learn makes the teacher that is teaching that student about as worthless as bark in the desert. Students NEED to have a reason, specifically a inner reason, to be in that classroom. There are many ways to inspire students.
Last I picked "interested in the students family." This is a very important thing to me. Last year when I was a Cadet Teacher, I had some students that were struggling a lot in school. I won't/can't go into specifics due to that violating the rules, but I will say that the family issues were very crucial to their academic and social development and success/struggle.
just like many people have said, it is very difficult to narrow it down to only three things. out of the list I would choose diversity in styles of teaching, sharing personal information, and clear speaking.
ReplyDeletehaving diverse teaching styles i believe is very crucial in the sense that not every student learns the same exact way. some students may learn better by lecture and note taking while others may be more hands on and have better auditory skills. by having a diverse style of teaching, you are able to help all the students in the classroom, not a selected few.
sharing personal information was one that i thought could be important. knowing how many of my teachers during my schooling were very quiet about themselves made it difficult to relate to the teacher. having activities like we did in class such as explaining something interesting about ourselves or where we grew up not only helps knowing the students, but if the teachers join in as well, the students can kind of relate or be able to interact with you more easily.
finally, I chose speaking clearly. like i said, not everyone understands everything written on power points so if you have a teacher with bad speaking skills, it can throw the children off more than they already are. At least from my experiences, a teacher who can explain lecture in other words than in the power points always made the class more easy and enjoyable.
BEN: i also agree with knowing the childs family. You have to both consider nature and nurture when it comes to the children; nurture being the one talking about family and environment. I am sure there are many common struggles seen by many teachers. One obsticle we just spoke about in my other class was children who use English as their second language. If you were able to get to know the family, you could possibly talk to them and see if they could use more English at home to help their success in the classroom.
ReplyDeletein order the three actions i would bring with me would be; dedication to my work and students, respect, and positive thinking.
ReplyDeletededication to work and students is important in many different ways. if a teacher shows that he/she is dedicated to their work and class than the students are likely to follow in the same path. im much more likely to work hard for someone who works hard for me.
a teacher who shows repect to students is more likely to get respect in return. this builds chemistry through out the entire class and makes it a much more comfortable setting to be in.
i picked positive thinking because nobody wants to be around negative people, especially not every day.
After looking through the list, I've chosen to bring along my passion for the subject matter, my willingness to know my students, and my ability to challenge my students.
ReplyDeleteIn bringing my passion for the subject matter, it shows that I have great interest and knowledge in what I'm trying to teach my students, which will hopefully catch on like wildfire through my students.
By getting to know my students personally and how they best learn material, I'm showing them how I care for them and respect them and their time.
The last suitcase would hold my ability to challenge my students. I hope to be able to help struggling students catch up with their peers and feel a real sense of accomplishment. I also hope to keep those students that learn easily interested in the subject matter and inspire them to want to learn more.
Alex- It sounds like you ended up with at least one teacher that showed a great interest in what they were teaching, and inspired you to want to be a great teacher. I had several over the years, and I can only hope to inspire some of my students, too.
ReplyDeleteFirst off I would just like to say that I like what Kyle had to say. It is nice to see that I am not the only one who feels that a positive attitude is a very important thing.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely bring positive thinking because it makes working and accomplishing things easier.
I would then bring the ability to overcome adversity. My oldest sister teaches 4th grade in Columbia MO. She has countless stories of how she has handled all sorts of situations. I feel it is what makes her the affective teacher that she is.
The last thing I would bring would be the ability to communicate. Sometimes the smartest teachers are the worst at communicating with their students. They have the knowledge but lack the people skills to be able to vary their teaching methods to allow all the students the chance to learn. I have been giving baseball lessons for three summers and have had to learn that in order to get a player to be better, I might have to explain one particular aspect of hitting five different ways before the player understands. I feel my best quality is the ability to relay information to anyone and give them the chance to understand.
Kyle- I'm with you on showing respect to your students. Many adults don't think of children or adolescents as real people, and therefore don't feel like they have to show them any respect. I believe teachers should demand respect from their students, but must show respect to them as well.
ReplyDeleteTO ALL- this is completely off subject, but we talked about it the first day of class... It's really easy to have your Lindenwood e-mail forwarded to another e-mail account that you're more likely to check daily.
ReplyDeleteSign in to your Lionmail; click on the settings tab; under "forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab, choose "forward a copy of incoming mail to" and then enter your e-mail address you want it sent to. You will also need to decide if you want your LU emails kept in your Lionmail inbox, have them archived in you Lionmail, or have them deleted from your LU account.
I was supposed to explain it in class on Tuesday, but we ran out of time.
Well, after much thought, i have chosen my three suitcases that i am going to bring.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I am bringing my suitcase filled with passion for the subject. It is so important that you have an excitement and a want to be there teaching what you take the most interest in. You will keep your audience focused and alert. You will be able to communicate to your students the best this way.
Secondly, I would bring my suitcase full of inspiration. This will come naturally if you are passionate about what you are teaching. Through being passionate you will be able to inspire your students that the topic they are being taught is useful, beneficial, and exciting! This can inspire them to reach higher and achieve goals they wouldn't have otherwise thought they could achieve.
Thirdly, i would take my suitcase full of care for my students. I believe it is crucial that you truly care for your students. By doing this you are showing how passionate you are and how much you care about their success. This can be very inspiring also. A teacher who cares will never let a student fail because he/she is so focused on the success of that individual. This can also teach life lessons to the students such as never giving up.
I believe these are the three characteristics that are most important in being an effective teacher.
ALEX MCDONALD- Hey man i totally agree with you about knowing your students individually. I have also been in classes where my teacher is not aware of both mine and other students needs, and ive been in classes where the teacher is always checking to see if they can do anything to allow us to get the most out of class and there is a BIG difference.
ReplyDeleteWow... Only three...? HAHA This is a tough question.
ReplyDeleteI believe every teacher needs to realize the importnace of different teaching styles in the classroom. Differentiaion in the classroom is a very important concept currently in schools. We all know children are on different learning levels and all children have differnt learinig styles that best suits them. Teaching to these styles will help to excel the student faster.
Having a good attitude toward teaching is my second choice. In another one of my classes we were presented with this quote "Ive come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. Its my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher I posses a tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides wether a crisis will be escalated or de-escualted and a child humanized or de-humanized." This just shows how important ones attitude is when entering the classroom.
My final suitcase would have to be Respect. Like the others in class I feel this is very important. I feel that as a teacher you have to gain the respect of your students by respecting them. If students feel that they do not have someone they can talk to, discuss problems with out confidentiality, or constantly being looked down apon, they will not excel or even want attempt to learn from your teaching.
Debbie, I definitely feel that getting to know your students is a very important quality. I know for my personal experience the teachers that I had a better relationship with in high school really wanted to know what was going on, and this made me excited to go to class!
ReplyDeleteChoosing just three things would be difficult. However, the first one that I would bring along is to inspire students. Many young people today, myself included have a hard time becoming motivated and inspired to do things and to be passionate. Therefore, I hope that I could inspire my students to find what they are good at and enjoy. The second item that I would pack is passion for content. I am majoring in physical education and health and I absolutely love it. Therefor I want my students to enjoy it and understand how much I care about it. Physical education is for everyone, not just athletes and I want my students to know that. Lastly, I would bring along diverse teaching styles. Not all students learn the same way. If my teaching styles vary then everyone shouldbe successful.
ReplyDeleteAshley, I really enjoyed reading ur comment about having a good attitude towards teaching. So many do not realize the effects of their attitude towards their students, colleagues, peers, etc. I loved the quote!
ReplyDeleteWow! You guys are posting some thoughtful comments. I want to challenge you to challenge each other. It is okay to disagree with someone. I am going to challenge Kyle - "a teacher who shows repect to students is more likely to get respect in return" Just because you show a student respect does not necessarily mean that he/she will respect you. Think about what you will do if you show respect to a student but he/she still does not respect you. What then?
ReplyDeleteDebbie has shared the directions to having your lionmail sent to a different email. Please take a few minutes to read her post and forward your lionmail to an email address that you regularaly check.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Debbie!
Ashley- love the quote. Do you know who is credited with having said it?
ReplyDeleteMrs. Bishop, I believe that showing respect and teaching students isn't always about the immediate responses you get from the students, but the later responses. I believe much of teaching can be described as "planting seeds that will grow." Pertaining to what you said about respect, I believe that if we based the amount of respect that we give to the students off of the respect we received from them that we are not in fact qualified to be teachers. Being a teacher doesn't just mean having the knowledge of the content, or the ability to teach students, or the cleverness of your teaching ability; it is also heavily dependent on your ability to be a good role model that does not bend from his/her principles no matter how bad the student is or how bad the action is that the student did. We must remain perseverant, and faithful that they will understand one day what respect truly is by seeing it through us, the teachers.
ReplyDeleteIt really would be hard to determine which three i would want to bring with me as a teacher i know i would definatley want to inspire my students expecially since i want to be an art teacher i think to inspire your students to do art and create new art would be amazing. The second thing i would want to bring with me is passion for the subject matter because i have had many teachers that didnt want to be there and i feel that the teachers who show an interest in what they are teaching are the most effective teachers. Finally, i would choose to interact with the students because i feel if the students have a connection with the teacher they care about doing their work more....if they dont do the work they feel like they are letting you down..which is important because it is important to show that you care about your students because they may not have that in their home life
ReplyDeleteAll of the actions of an effective teacher listed are qualities that every teacher should have, so it was a little difficult to decide on just three. The three qualities that I would definitely want to bring with me are: diversity in my teaching styles, being a positive role model, and showing interest in my students.
ReplyDeleteI believe that every child learns at a different pace and that lessons need to be adapted to work for every child in the classroom. While I am sure that it is difficult to change every lesson plan to fit each individual student, I strongly believe that I have to try. Whether that is by using both words and hand-outs to work for both my visual and audio learners, or just modifying tests and handouts to fit each of my different learners. If I notice that a student is having difficulty on a worksheet or can't complete a test because that is not what works for them, then it definitely becomes important that as the teacher, I make an effort to help each of my students.
This quality also really plays into getting to know my students and showing an interest in them. I always appreciated when my teachers wanted to get to know me because I knew that I could always come to them for help if I needed it or I could just rely on the fact that they would be someone to talk to. I definitely believe that teachers who show an interest in their students get more out of the teaching experience. There are many students in a classroom who may not have the best home life or aren't doing so well making friends and if I have the opportunity to lend an ear or even just listen to what they did that weekend and be a "big person" friend, then I will feel accomplished as a teacher.
I also want to be a role model for my students. I want to show them that being positive and having a great outlook on the world will help them to learn, live, and grow better. I work at a birthday party and clothing store for girls so I see a lot of girls everyday. They need to see someone who is older than them showing positive qualities that they can imitate. We all know that children idolize older people and want to be just like them so I am always on my toes showing the qualities that I believe will make a difference in all of the girls lives that come through the store's doors rather than the fake celebrities they see on television or the new pop singers...They need to be able to idolize someone real and constant in their lives. Being a role model will definitely follow me into my teaching position.
Russ-I completely agree with you that when a teacher cares so strongly about his/her students than they will not let them fail. When a child fails, in a way I see this as the teacher failing. What didn't the teacher do that could have been done differently? Unless a child just sits and does nothing even upon countless times of being talked to or after all of the changes that are made for him/her, then it really is the teacher failing and not the student. It is our job as teachers to reach our students.
ReplyDeletewow everyone has already been on here a lot but i agree in how difficult it was to choose just 3. My 3 that i have chosen are to know the content, know my students, and show that it applies in real life.
ReplyDeleteIf you know the content you will always be able to answer a question asked by your students. In knowing the content you can also show interest in it. If you don't you tend to not be interested and you are confused. If you are confused you can't be confident and professional to your students.
I never liked when a teacher would not listen to my needs or problems with the subject. They didn't know me. They didn't know i work hard, and try my best at everything i did. With having this feeling i want to be able to know my students and whats going on in their lives. i want a chance to come to sporting events and support them outside the classroom. If you don't know your students this can't happen.
I know a lot of my classmates who struggled in an area of a subject. It helped if you could show an example of how it works in real life. Some of them then understood how it worked. I would like to be able to tell my students how it works in real life. It might help them pay attention more in the classroom if they know where its used in their career.
kadunard- I completely agree with you on having a connection with your students as a teacher. From just being a student in highschool, i can tell you that this was true with one of my teachers. It was a fun class to go to and everyone wanted to be there. It helped to get everyone to do the work. Thank you for bringing that up! I forgot to think of that one!
ReplyDeleteThis is so fun for me to read everyone's thoughts. I am very impressed with how well you have communicated why you chose the three that you did. Many of you are reflecting upon experiences you had as a student in the classroom. Allow those experiences (whether positive or negative) to drive you toward effective teaching. You know what worked and didn't work with you, so remember those experiences as you think about teaching in your own classroom someday.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you haven't read Ashley Creer's paragraph about attitude, scroll up right now and read it. Powerful stuff!!!!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I'm repeating everyone else but it is hard to pick just three to be an effective teacher because I feel you need all of these to be an effective teacher. But I would pick show how it applies to real life, know my students and care for my students.
ReplyDeleteThrough my experiences as a student I have sometimes questioned what I was learning at the time would really help me in life so I believe that it is very important to show your students how what your focusing on in class relates to real life. Knowing how the lesson relates to life sometimes helps students understand the material.
Knowing your students and caring about them are very similar but are not the same thing. Knowing who your students are is very important but it means alot more to students when you show that you care about them. If you know your teacher on a more personal level you can relate to them better in the classroom. Even if you dont get along well with the teacher because she pushes you to hard you realize later that the same teacher really cared about you.
Giving meaningful assignments helps the students understand what they are learning. It also helps the student clearly understand what they were just taught in the classroom. I had a teacher that would always give busy work, everybody in the class was extremely bored and did not understand why all this pointless work was given. Most students wound just throw the papers away because so many were given out during class. I do not see how busy work is helpful for the students, they just complete the work to get points. How is completion of work without comprehension of the work useful to the students. Its the meaningful work that helps the students better understand the subject.
ReplyDeleteCaring for the students is a big problem that some teachers have. I took a class last year in high school where I was a cadet teacher for the fourth grade at a elementary school. The teacher that I was cadet teaching for had a student who was had a second grade intelligence level. The teacher would always tell me stories about how horrible this child was and how she did not really care because she was so annoying. One time the child was reading a line out of a book to the class and the teacher began laughing because the child could not pronounce a good amount of the words. My heart went out to this students because the teacher did not care that the child could not read, but instead made her read to the entire class while she laughed in the background. Caring for a students helps the child better themselves knowing the teacher is there is support them one hundred percents. The student will always know they have their teacher to understand and listen to the problems .
Speaking clearly is a huge quality of an effective teacher to me. Students that cannot understand the information being told because the teacher speaks improper or not clearly should not speak to a large group of individuals. The students need to understand what their teacher is telling them. If the teacher is speaking unclearly the students feel like its a foreign language. I had a teacher last year that spoke very unprofessionally, it was disturbing to all her students. No one could understand what she was saying because she pronounced everything incorrectly. It was embarrassing for her and for the school to have someone so unprofessionally working there. Speaking clearly is important to everyone in the classroom. Just speak clearly and pronounce your words correctly!!!!
Andrew- I completely agree with what you said about when you know your teacher on a more personal level you can relate to the subject more. When I knew my teachers on a more personal level outside of the classroom I felt like I could listen to that teacher and understand where she was coming from more than before. I was always excited to be in that particular class, I was ready learn. I actually had better grades when I knew my teacher on a more personal level!
ReplyDeleteBrittany- I agree with what you said about meaningful assignments it is important not to bore your students to death. I also found that as a student I began to neglect the busy work after awhile just because it was so boring and for little points. Giving meaningful assignments helps students learn better and makes them think deap about certain issues.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to choose I would choose, inspire students, diverse teaching styles, and chellenge students. Inspiring the students is my first choice because in order for the student to believe in themselves then you have to show them that they can do it. Some students are so smart but never show it because they think that noone will care. Some students don't have the support of their parents always telling them good job and how proud they are, which is why you as a teacher can show them that they can do it. My next choise is diverse teaching styles. Students learn in different ways, and in order to understand how they learn you have to be able to teach how they will all understand. Challening the students is my next choice because when they students get out into the real world they will be challenged. Throughtout school if the students weren't challenged they will not know how it feels to have to actually apply themselves.
ReplyDeleteMy three things would be to be respectful, inspire students and offer help. I chose respect because I know that I would want respect from the students and they would only respect if I respected them. My next choice is to inspire the students. If I can make my students want to better themselves and inspire them to be all they can be then I will feel successful as a teacher. The last thing I picked was to offer help. I have had teachers who aren't always willing to offer help and it really bugged me. Why are you a teacher if you can't help the students?!
ReplyDeleteMy three things I would take with me would have to be inspire students, diversity in teaching styles, and passion for subject matter. I would choose to inspire students because a student will work harder if they are inspired. They will want to do their homework and learn. I would take diversity in eaching because people learn new things in different ways. They grasp on to new things in various types of teaching. A good teacher needs to know how to reach every student or attempt to go the extra mile to help. Then my final thing I would take is passion for the subject because a student isnt going to be interested in a subject if the teacher doesnt show interest in the subject. A teacher with passion shows children learning can be fun.
ReplyDeleteThe three things I would choose to pack would be interaction with students, care for the students, and challenging the students. Interaction with the students is necessary for a lot reasons. I am going into Pre-K, so they are definitely hands-on all the time. I believe the teacher has to interact with them to find out what they like to do, help them learn to share, teach them how to do something in a way they understand. They will learn to trust and respect you as well because they get to know you better as their teacher.
ReplyDeleteThe second thing I would pick would be caring for the students. I think caring for the students especially if they are young is needed. If you don't care about your students then your not there to help them. Once they realize that you do care about them and are there to teach them, they sometimes learn better because they are paying full attention to you. You have to equally care for each student.
The last thing I would bring would be challenging the students. You can challenge students no matter what age they are. Pre-K you can teach them how to play a new game, share, and listen. Older children you can give harder assignments, more questions during class. These things will help them to try new things all the time, remember more and more, gain knowledge. You can challenge them in any way and it will help them. When they accomplish the challenge you have given them, they usually want more because they realized that they can do anything they put their mind to.
Kyle - I agree with you about dedication to my work and students. This is why you are a teacher. You have to be dedicated to want to help each and every child learn. Showing up to work every day with a positive and outgoing attitude will hopefully make your students want to come to school everyday because they can't wait to be in your class. That shows that you are dedicated because you want to make your students want to learn new things every day.
ReplyDeleteif i had to choose between all of those, i would say caring for the students, inspiring the students, and giving meaningful assignments would be my top three. Caring for the students is so important to being an affective teacher. A teacher who is just there to throw material at you is not going to get through to the student. its a give and take situation. if you care about the students, they will care about you and about what you are teaching. Inspiring the students is important for the same reason. you have to encourage the students to do well. giving meaningful assignments is something that i was passionate about while i was in high school. i hated when teachers would give busy work. i would never do that to my students when i hated that myself :)
ReplyDeleteIt is very difficult to choose only three qualities to being an effective teacher, but I settled with challenging the students, knowing the content, and inspiring the students.
ReplyDeleteI believe that in order for a student to grow as an individual he or she needs to be challenged and pushed to learn and succeed. i agree with you Alex, being challenged makes you want to learn and finish your work!
In order to be a decent teacher at all, you need to know the content in which you are teaching.
nothing is worse than when you go up to your teacher about a problem and the teacher himself doesnt know the answer. however, out of my top three, I think that inspiring your students is number one! i personally have been inspired . i am studying to become an art teacher and i know that a great amount of my motivation to persue such a subject has came from the inspiration of past teachers. A lot of my teachers had made me feel very passionate about what i love to do... what a great power they have :)
-Ashley-
ReplyDeleteThat quote is amazing it really does make a difference to have a postive attitude when you are in the class room. Trust me i have gone through so many teachers with bad attitudes and they just bring down your whole day. I know that people have bad days but when it is everyday you just dread going to class. I feel that the classroom should be a place where students feel safe and somewhere they want to be and that all starts with the teachers attitude.
Keep up the good work, guys!
ReplyDeleteSeems like giving meaningful assignments is an important aspect of effective teaching to many of you. I completely agree. What is the point of busy work? Just to have some numbers to put down in a grade book? Is that what school should be all about?
Brittany Evans - if you read this, come see me tomorrow in class...we need to talk about your cadet experience.
If I could only take three qualities I would choose to inspire the students, challenge the students and have clear handwriting. I feel like the job of a teacher is to inspire the students to do the best they can do and to want to do their best. I would like to inspire the kids that they can do whatever they want as long as they try. I want to challenge the students to push themselves as hard as they can. I want them to know that they should always do their best and never just settle for what they can get. I also think it's important to have clear handwriting because I have really messy handwriting and I am really trying to work on that.
ReplyDeleteWOW! only three...this is hard.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick only three actions of an effective teacher I would pick inspire students, positive attitude, and giving meaningful assignments.
I feel when you inspire your students they want to work harder and they will want to learn more from you. Some students just do not believe in themselves and if you just give them that push of inspiration maybe they will see their own potential. i hope that I can inspire students to reach higher for their goals and become a better person.
I feel that a positive attitude is what makes a good teacher. When a young student walks into the classroom a want they to feel welcomed and safe. For a lot of students school is a place where they can feel safe away from all the family issues and any other problems that they have to deal with on an everyday bases. If a teacher is unhappy all the time and just looks like they hate their job and do not even want to be there..how is a student going to feel? I know from past teachers how it feels. You do not want to be there and you dread going to class. A good attitude makes a good teacher.
The last thing I picked to be in my suitcase was to give meaningful assignments. Throughout the many years of school I always hated when my teachers gave me assignments that meant nothing. They were giving assignments just to give them and I hate that. Most students want to get something out of what they are doing and if what you give them mean absolutely nothing then they are going to not care about any assignment you give them. If there is no point to it then why wast your time and your students time.
debbie, i also agree with your quality of getting to know your students. the teachers that ive had in the passed who made it a point to be involved in my life, to a certain degree, always made me want and care to learn more so then those who showed little to no interest at all.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick only three actions of an effective teacher i would pick giving meaningful assignments, diverse teaching styles and care for the students.
ReplyDeleteWhen giving meaningful assignments you want to make sure students understand the reason for the assignment and know how to complete it successfully. Also make sure that students have concepts and skills necessary to do the assignment. Vary the homework and style and design the homework so that its meaningful, engaging and supportive of the curriculum.
Its so important for teachers to beable to teach using diverse styles. Teachers need to understand that their preferred learning style isnt always the same as that of their students. Some learn from kinesthetically, verbal and nonverbal.
There is such an importance for a strong caring and mentoring relationship based on respect and trust, between teacher and student. It is central to building sustained motivation and commitment to hard work in students. Especially important for students who are struggling in school and for students of color and students living in poverty working to overcome the achievement gap.
I agree hundred percent with Sami, if my teachers didnt inspire me then i problem wouldnt try as hard in school or do more homework or be motivated to get up for class.
ReplyDeleteKayla, I also agree with you on using diverse styles of teaching. Not all students will learn the same. For example I work wonderful in groups and I prefer group work to silent working alone. If I am doing silent work my mind just wonders to much!
ReplyDeleteto everyone... i think that having diverse teaching styles is a great way to keep your students active in your class :)
ReplyDeleteI would definatlly choose to challenge the students, inspire the students, and care for the students. I believe that these three traits are the best that a teacher can have and incorperate into their students daily lives.
ReplyDeleteI would like to address what we talked about in class today on the subject of salaries I looked up my home distrit in Texas and found that coaching will add around ten grand to my salary.
ReplyDelete
